Rent or Buy?

                                         Should You Rent or Own?

Text Box: PUT THE POWER TO WORK FOR YOU

With today’s conditions, you may be wondering whether it’s better to own or rent. The fact is, it depends entirely on you – on your personal and financial needs both now and in the future.

The following quiz addresses the two sides of a renting vs. owning issue.  Check the statement (from the left or right hand column) that most closely resembles your thought on each issue.

q      “I’m tired of paying rent year after year and having nothing to show for it.”

q      “I’d love to get my apartment fixed up the way I really want , but it’s a waste of money while I’m just renting.”

q      “I want to settle down, establish roots for my family.”

q      “I want to invest my money in something that’s tangibly mine, something I need and can enjoy.”

q      “I want a garden of my own, a real fireplace, maybe even a pool.”

q      “I’m creative; I like to putter around, get involved in projects around the house and garden.”

q      “I’d like to live where I know my neighbours and feel I’m part of a community.”

q      “I want my children to grow up with the kind of freedom I never had.”

q      “I want the freedom to have whatever pet(s) I please.”

q      “I’d like to know I can count on my neighbours to keep an eye on my place when I’m not home.”

q      ‘I want more space than I can get with an apartment.”

q      “I’ve got (almost) enough money for a down payment on a house.”

q      “I’ve always wanted to own my own home.”

                                                                                                 OR:

q      “My rent is reasonable.  I really don’t have any complaints.”

q      “I’ve got a gorgeous apartment.  It doesn’t need any renovations.”

q      “I don’t want to feel tied down to any one place.”

q      “I believe in other forms of investment.”

q      “My building has a roof garden and a year-round pool.  Those things aren’t important to me.”

q      “If I do any putting, it’s on the golf course.”

q      “I’m a very private person; I like to keep to myself.”

q      “My children are grown up.”/”I don’t have any children.”

q      “Pets aren’t an issue for me.”

q      “I like having a doorman and an electronic security system.  It makes me feel safe.”

q      “It would cost too much to furnish a whole house.”

q      “I don’t want to have to come up with a lot of money up front just to live somewhere.”

q      “I don’t want the hassles of owning a home.”
